Calling all those creatively-inclined!

Are you interested in submitting to The Spectatorial? Well, you’re in luck! We are currently accepting submissions until DECEMBER 6th, 2014 for our January 2015 issue.

We’re looking for speculative:

  • Short Stories
  • Novel Excerpts
  • Poetry
  • Graphic Fiction
  • Academic Papers
  • Articles
  • Interviews
  • Visual Art

What do we mean by speculative? Anything that could be construed as literary genre. Fantasy, horror, science fiction, superhero, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, gaslamp, steampunk, and anything else that you can think of. We also encourage submissions related to mythology, folklore, urban legends, and ghost stories. We accept papers and articles on film, photography, art shows, theatre, comics, performances, literature or any other medium that you believe successfully explores the unreal. We also accept papers analyzing the place of speculative fiction genres in literary and popular culture, and encourage you to submit these sorts of analyses.

Send art as PDFs and text as .docs to Please ensure that your name is not anywhere on the document itself. The word limit for pieces submitted is 4000 words for prose, and 5 pages/pieces for art/graphic fiction. Please note that if a piece is 4000 words, it will likely be cut down by our editors. Your email body must contain:

  • your name
  • an abstract/statement of purpose for your piece (approx. 100-200 words describing your intentions)

*You may submit a maximum of: 3 essays/3 stories/5 poems/5 art pieces or any combination up to the limit of 5 pieces total*

We are looking for two things: really good stories and strong, analytical thought. If you think you have what we’re looking for, please submit your work to us.
